The Post House Inn & (Not So) Basic Projects

With its cobblestone streets, historic charm, and culinary delights, Charleston beckons travelers seeking a quintessential Southern experience. We visited our friends Ben and Kate Towill who have mastered the art of creating an unforgettable blend of comfort, accessible luxury, and coastal community that unfolds at the Post House Inn, Sullivan's Fish Camp, and Basic Kitchen resulting in some (not so) Basic Projects.

The culinary landscape of Charleston, South Carolina, is enriched by the vision and expertise of a diverse trio of establishments—Basic Kitchen, Post House Inn, and Sullivan's Fish Camp—each with its own distinctive charm. Founded by Ben and Kate, Basic Kitchen is a haven for health-conscious foodies, offering a fresh and vibrant approach to nourishing cuisine. Post House Inn, epitomizes Southern hospitality with its historic setting in Mt. Pleasant’s Old Village and a restaurant that pays homage to regional flavors. Last, but certainly not least for us, Sullivan's Fish Camp, captures the essence of coastal dining, delivering seafood delights in a laid-back atmosphere. Together, these establishments contribute to Charleston's gastronomic tapestry, reflecting the creativity, passion, and a special appreciation for community.

The Post House Inn, a historic gem in the heart of Mt. Pleasant’s Old Village, sets the stage for a delightful stay. The Inn, with its charming architecture and modern amenities, offers a warm embrace, making guests feel like they've stepped into a page of Southern hospitality. Its rooms, adorned with period furnishings, offer a glimpse into the past while providing contemporary comfort.

Nestled along the shores of the picturesque Charleston Harbor, the Old Village is renowned for its tree-lined streets, colonial-era homes, and a rich maritime heritage. Strolling through the neighborhood feels like stepping back in time, with its well-preserved architecture and a sense of tranquility that permeates the area. Quaint shops, local eateries, and waterfront parks contribute to the village's allure, making it a delightful destination for those seeking a glimpse into the past while enjoying the beauty of coastal living.

Partnering seamlessly with the Post House Inn is Sullivan's Fish Camp, an iconic eatery that captures the essence of Charleston's coastal culinary scene. Fish Camp beckons food enthusiasts with its menu showcasing the best of Lowcountry flavors. From freshly caught seafood to locally sourced ingredients, each dish tells a story of the region's rich culinary heritage.

A barrier island known for its pristine beaches and picturesque dunes, Sullivan’s has a storied past, playing a role in both the American Revolution and the Civil War. The charming town offers a mix of quaint cottages, upscale beachfront properties, and a scattering of local businesses. Visitors can explore historical sites like Fort Moultrie, enjoy the serene Sullivan's Island Beach, and savor fresh seafood at the island's inviting restaurants. Sullivan's Island provides a peaceful escape, capturing the essence of Lowcountry living with its timeless appeal.

Established decades ago, this iconic fish camp has been a focal point for locals and visitors alike. Nestled near the Atlantic shores, it has weathered the changing tides while maintaining its commitment to serving fresh, locally sourced seafood. The camp's rustic ambiance, reminiscent of classic maritime culture, provides a unique dining experience.

From the laid-back atmosphere to the delectable seafood offerings, Sullivan's Fish Camp has become a cherished destination for those seeking a taste of the sea in a relaxed coastal setting. With its enduring legacy, the fish camp continues to be a beloved institution on Sullivan's Island, embodying the essence of Southern coastal cuisine.
